DA: No Charges In Investigation Of Missing Shelter Money
Intermountain Humane Society Board Looking Into Civil Case
Jaclyn Allen, 7NEWS Reporter
POSTED: 9:40 pm MST January 31, 2012
PINE JUNCTION, Colo. — The Park County District Attorney has decided not to file embezzlement charges against former employees of the Intermountain Humane Society, citing a lack of evidence.“It’s over 10 percent of our yearly operating budget,” said Steve Kelsey, the current Intermountain Humane Society Board President. “There is a suspect. We have documented evidence.”
But the Park County District Attorney, Thom LeDoux said a criminal investigation into former shelter staff came up short on evidence, especially concerning more than $14,000 in missing adoption fees.
“Based on insufficient accounting practices, we weren’t able to determine who took the money or how much money was taken,” said LeDoux.
